Domaine du Tau is located in Lirac, a well-regarded appellation next to Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

A young and promising estate

Founded by Thierry Chapusot, the estate will see a new winery built inside a beautifully restored Provençal bastide. The estate follows organic farming and will recycle rainwater to help protect the region’s precious water supply, especially important in this warm Mediterranean climate.

The vineyard covers 16 ha, with 14 ha in Lirac AOC, planted with grenache, syrah, mourvèdre, and cinsault, and 2 ha under Vin de France, featuring grenache, syrah, carignan, and an unusual touch of tempranillo. Vines are planted on sandy, rounded pebble, red rock, and clay-limestone soils.

Azénor 2023 tasting notes

Azénor 2023 is a Vin de France cuvée led by grenache, with syrah, carignan and tempranillo, grown on clay-limestone soils.

Pale ruby in colour, it offers bright aromas of wild strawberry and black cherry, with hints of liquorice, black olive, black pepper and herbs from the local garrigue, along with a soft floral touch.

The palate is generous yet fresh, with smooth 14.5% alcohol adding roundness and body, balanced by a lively acidity and fine tannins for structure. The fruit shines through, with hints of olive and liquorice that carry through to the finish.

Vinified in stainless steel tanks to keep its pure and fresh fruit character, Azénor 2023 finds a great balance between richness and freshness. A very good wine, enjoyable now, that can develop more complexity over the next 4 to 5 years.
