What is Sancerre?
Sancerre is a French wine appellation. It is located in the eastern Loire Valley, in the Centre-Loire region.
Before the phylloxera crisis - an insect from America that destroyed French vineyards in the 19th century - the most common grape variety was pinot noir.
The climate is cool continental. Summer are short and rainy, continentality is high (temperature difference between the hottest and coldest months), average temperature is less than 16.5°C during the vine growing season.
There are 330 winegrowers in the appellation. 70% of the wine produced is exported.
