More on Guadalupe Valley wine region
The Guadalupe Valley is located in the Baja California region, in north west Mexico, close to the border with the United States.
The climate is hot mediterranean. The region is located at a latitude of around 30°N, at the limit possible for viticulture. Annual rainfall is low and evaporation rate is high, meaning sustainable water management is a key issue for winegrowers.
Most of the vines are planted on the valley floor, between 200 and 400 metres above sea level. The soils are mostly sandy and granitic, and the grape varieties of the region have been imported from Europe.
